Listen to Your Life

While driving on “the 10” this morning, I paused my radio scanning on Carry Underwood’s version of “How Great Thou Art.” It was my mother’s favorite hymn. Some 35 years of Sundays ago, we sang it the week after my aunt died in a car accident. While my mother had spent the week questioning the random, cruelty of the universe, it was her song of hope that would carry her through many burdens.

One tap of my finger brought me “Staying Alive.” If we at all grasp the awesome wonder, what choice but we to stay alive? And boogie in your car!

A tap, and “Proud Mary,” reminds us that there are always bigger wheels turning. And as I pulled into my client’s parking lot on what was

expected to be a challenging day, “Run through the Jungle” gave me perspective.

Buechner tells us to listen to our life. McLean tells us that music can save our mortal soul. Either way, hear the rolling thunder.
